Hong Kong MTR

Hyundai Rotem supplied a fleet of 25 kV electric multiple units for operation on the Hong Kong East Line Railway as a part of the upgrade of the line from Hong Kong Island to Lo Wou. The EAL was also upgraded with a new transmission-based signalling system for the automatic control of the train movements and operations from the signalling control centre.

The new trains must demonstrate Electromagnetic Compatibility with both existing signalling and communications infrastructure and the transmission based signalling system. Important for a project of this nature is that the EMC assessment makes reference to International railway standards for generic conditions such as RFI and to the MTR standards for conditions specific to the MTR signalling, telecommunications and traction supply. All of these requirements have been included in the rolling stock specification and test specification.

Permarail provided EMC activities throughout the project to ensure that specified EMC requirements delivered a safe railway, that they were met and that documentary evidence of satisfactory performance was provided.
